|
|
I have a Bondi Blue G3 233mhz rev B iMac, and I have been able to install Gentoo successfully on it, but the kernel I compiled reboots the system mid-boot without going into init. I can use the boot cd and pass 'root=/dev/hda4' to the G3 kernel, and it boots fine with just the expected module related errors, so I'm certain that this is a kernel configuration problem. Does anyone have a working .config for a vanilla 2.6.x kernel for this model? Thanks! _________________ http://www.tirlannon.net/

I'm also in the middle of installing gentoo on a Rev B iMac (infact, im typing in links on it right now). I have a 2.6.4 kernel that SEEMS to be stable (ie no rebooting problems or anything) but I can't get X working for the life of me. So I can't guarantee that the kernel doesn't have something to do with that. This is my first time installing linux by "myself" on any computer, but I've had friend look over the kernel (neither have any PPC experiance though). If you'd like the config file let me know, I have other working computers, but whats the best way to share it? |

I am planning on using it as a mailserver, so X isn't a very high priority with it. The kernel's .config file would be around 1200 lines I estimate, so it would probably work fine as an attachment over email. I'll pm you my email address if that works for you. _________________ http://www.tirlannon.net/

Sure, it might take me a bit of time to figure out how to transfer it to a working machine though. |

How would I get the same exact config used on the Gentoo CD "G3" kernel? It loads flawlessly so I just copied it into /boot and added it to yaboot.conf so I can boot from the hard disk now - i still would like a customized kernel that i can load and unload modules with though. _________________ http://www.tirlannon.net/

After loading up the stock G3 kernel and running a dmesg, studying the output, and sort of figuring it out from there I have a working 2.6.7 kernel now. If anybody needs the config for this kernel, I'll share it if you PM me. _________________ http://www.tirlannon.net/
