|

This is just a simple tip.
If you're installing gentoo from the livecd, you can always browse the web using links.
But you wont see any graphics.
If you want this, you simply run
Code: | gpm -m /dev/misc/psaux -t ps2 |
and then run
Now you can browse the web in a nice way while installing gentoo. |

Should add i think this will only work with 2004.2 LiveCD's as links was not built with fbcon before 2004.2 and if you want to build links with graphic mode remeber to add "X fbcon or svga" to make.conf and then image formats you would like to see like "jpeg png and tiff" then to get javascript "javascript" and to be able to use your mouse in links add "gpm" and configure /etc/conf.d/gpm for your mouse and /etc/init.d/gpm start or add it to you startup by rc-update add gpm default:-) _________________ ftp://lila-project.ath.cx |

I've also noticed that you don't need to start gpm when you use the x86 livecd, it's already done.
You only have to start it with the 64bit livecd |

Yes, but then it's text only, you can't see any graphics, colors, ... |

Or you could use the Damn Small Linux livecd with the "dsl toram" boot option. This brings you into nice fluxbox environment with a choice of *2* graphical browsers (3 if you can be bothered to download firefox.) Since you used the "dsl toram" option you can eject the cd and insert your gentoo cd, and do the install as normal.
(in fact, you don't even need the gentoo cd, just download the stage tarball once you have booted) |

hi!
i tried it out and it works great on a console running through X, i am able to surf etc... and also to use the mouse / scrolling, but when i run it on a normal console (i am using vesa framebuffer) it doesnt take all of the screen's size, and the mouse doesnt work even if gpm is runnign and i can move the mouse normally; when i launch it the mouse cursor just doesnt move at all ! _________________ please, help me, pity on me :'( |

Because I wanted to install 64bit gentoo, and you can't install it from Knoppix.
Otherwise you're right: it works great. |

cool ! I found out why links wasn't taking the whole screen on my framebuffer and why my mouse wasn't working (i was using gpm though).
i had to explicitly use the "-driver fb" instead of the default one, directfb !
now i have a very cool links on fb in fullscreen and mouse support
great !!!
btw: am posting right now with it _________________ please, help me, pity on me :'( |
