|Though there are posts in this forum already about ppc64 problems, I was hoping somebody could give a brief overview of these problems and their solutions:
1) Sound on the G5 (alsa)
2) bootsplash on the G5 (This is one i doubt about)
3) Video on the G5 (nvidia & radeon, dual monitor? kde)
I have tried for a while with the sound in ppc64 with no results. I put in all the kernel options found in the ppc documentation but when i run alsaconf there is no audio device found.
There are no options in the gentoo-sources for bootsplash. (I'll say it with confidence, you can correct me if you dare!) kernel 2.6.12-gentoo-r9 (I guess i should add via make menuconfig...any work arounds?)
video is working great on the G5!!! tons of improvement from the G5's initial release. I use an nvidia geForce FX5200 (stock with the single 1.8Ghz original powerMac G5) just emerge xorg-x11. emerge Xorgautoconfig and run it. then if that dont do it perfectly edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change the FBDev= option from whatever it is to whatever its not (don't worry it's just a boolean). Then continue with emergering kde to yer hearts delight. pretty much go by the documentation I have seen there is support for dualies in radeon chips but not for nvidia, and I haven't been able to do anything to convince me otherwise...
thought this might just stir up the forums a little bit.
btw wtf happened to http://gentoo-ppc64.blogspot.com/ I kept up with that while it was going, kinda exciting to see the live updates from the uber-pro developers.
