Amarok won't start and gives this error:
Code:
reub2000@reub2000 ~ $ amarok
amaroK: [Loader] Starting amarokapp..
amaroK: [Loader] Don't run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use amarokapp.
amarokapp: error while loading shared libraries: libFLAC.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I thought it was because I had upgraded flac, so I reemerged amarok, but it still won't start. Anybody else having problems with this?

re-emerge tunepimp and that should fix it. more generally, revdep-rebuild will catch that and (probably) other problems.

I had to re-emerge tunepimp and amarok! After upgrading FLAC revdep-rebuild
rebuilt tunepimp but not amarok. Just wondering that amarok ist directly linked against
libFLAC which is provided by the media-libs/flac ebuild. But looking into the amarok
ebuild I found that amarok doesn't depend on media-libs/flac directly, instead it depends
on media-plugins/gst-plugins-flac (so, of course it depends indirectly on libFLAC).
So I assume amarok should link only against libgstflac. In the other case, if amarok links
against libFLAC shouldn't the ebuild have a dependency on media-libs/flac? Or am I wrong?

I'm using amarok-1.2.4.

didn't for me... i'm re-emerging tunepimp and amarok. for some reason this flac update broke a lot of sound apps on my box. i almost though alsa had died until i realized xmms still worked.

edit: re-emerging amarok after a revdep-rebuild fixed it for me. the flac upgrade did b0rk things up, at least on my system.

That happened to me, apparently flac's library changed from libFLAC.so.6 to libFLAC.so.7 (your old apps were built and linked against .6, while .7 was the new one). For some reason revdep-rebuild wouldn't notice amarok and tunepimp were broken (the only reason i figured out about tunepimp was I noticed the error in the emerge output, and used ldd on the tunepimp file).

revdep-rebuild also didn't notice kuickshow (kuickshow was linked against something that was linked against giflib which made it hard to fix) and mplayer (was lazy and just changed it's use flag to -gif) were still linked against libungif (which giflib suddenly decided it conflicted with).

If you get erros like:

Code:
APPNAME: error while loading shared libraries: libFOO.so.pi: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

You will need to run revdep-rebuild (and hope it finds whats broken).
