Ok throught the night I ran

Code:
emerge --update --deep --newuse world && emerge --depclean

It went well. I found out it has installed a new gcc-3.4.4. Ok, then I ran.

Code:
gcc-config i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.4

, and it said it switched to the new compiler.

After that, I ran

Code:
source /etc/profile.

But since Im a gentoo noob, I just ran

Code:
emerge -C gcc-3.3.6

Which was very stupid:S

Because I think I forgot to emerge the whole gcc-3.4.4?`When I try using emerge now, it says:

Quote:
/usr/bin/python: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Hmm, have I forgot to emerge gcc-3.4.4 shared library? And is there somehow to correct this without the emerge funktion?

What arch do you have? Maybe I could send you the binary package for gcc 3.3.6?

I have the following arch available:
Code:
athlon-xp/All/gcc-3.3.6.tbz2
hardened/i586/All/gcc-3.3.6.tbz2
hardened/p2/All/gcc-3.3.6.tbz2
hardened/p3/All/gcc-3.3.6.tbz2
tbird/All/gcc-3.3.6.tbz2
via_nehemiah/All/gcc-3.3.6.tbz2

They are all very small. Between 6.5MB and 8.1MB. I could send them as a mail, if you want me to.

cheers

Why? You realy don't need to reinstall. I can send you the binary and you only need to extract it and then you have again a working system. Then you can remerge again a new copy of a working gcc 3.3.6 and do the upgrade as described in the gentoo documentation.

There is realy no need to reinstall from scratch. Please send me your email address and I will send you the binary and the instructions how to extract it.

cheers

On all Live-CD are working gcc's !

Boot from a CD , mount and chroot your root-partition and emerge gcc again.

Or copy the gcc-binary from the cd.

I hope that will work.

Hi again. I am reinstalling now.

I want to reinstall, because it was my first gentoo installation. And a lot could be better. I know a lot more about gentoo now, than I did before. So I think its best completely reinstall it all.

In the earlyer installation of gentoo, I mixed gentoo packages with source compiles. And thats a bad idea. Now I want to emerge all the programs I want to use. Even if the emerge version is lower than the ones you dl.

sry for my english

TheX,

Err, nope.
The chroot only contains the tarball (untarred) at the start of an install and thats where the working gcc is, not on the live CD.

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads in favour of this FAQ: Error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5.
