I get this problem when installing Wine from portage:

i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -c -I. -I. -I../../include -I../../include -DINCLUDEDIR="\"/usr/include/win e\"" -Wall -pipe -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -fno-strict-aliasing -gstabs+ -Wpointer-arith -O2 -mcpu=i686 -pipe -I//usr/include/lcms -o lex.yy.o lex.yy.c
lex.yy.c:2614: error: syntax error before numeric constant
lex.yy.c: In function `yy_scan_string':
lex.yy.c:2615: error: number of arguments doesn't match prototype
lex.yy.c:305: error: prototype declaration
lex.yy.c:2617: warning: passing arg 1 of `strlen' makes pointer from integer without a cast
lex.yy.c:2617: warning: passing arg 1 of `yy_scan_bytes' makes pointer from integer without a cast
make[2]: *** [lex.yy.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/wine-0.9.5-r1/work/wine-0.9.5/tools/wrc'
make[1]: *** [wrc] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/wine-0.9.5-r1/work/wine-0.9.5/tools'
make: *** [tools] Error 2

!!! ERROR: app-emulation/wine-0.9.5-r1 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 121, Exitcode 2
!!! depend
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

Also I've noticed an increasing number of failure compilations since last week. Could it mean that my portage system has become corrupted or something similar?

It's a dup at that. Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads in favour of topic 437493.
