A regular user can't eject a camera from within the Thunar file manager:

Code:
Error ejecting /dev/sdb1: Command-line 'eject "/dev/sdb1"'
exited with non-zero exit status 1: eject: unable to eject

I can't find anything good in the logs. Any ideas?

man eject

eject allows removable media (typically a CD-ROM, floppy disk, tape, JAZ, ZIP or USB disk) to be ejected under software
control. The command can also control some multi-disc CD-ROM changers, the auto-eject feature supported by some devices,
and close the disc tray of some CD-ROM drives.

I only used eject in the past for the optical drive.

as long as any process uses teh device (File-manager for example) the device is busy and can not be ejected.

check wiht lsof any processes using that /dev/your_device_balbla but I think eject is definitely the wrong way for this use case.

man lsof

afaik lsof /....your_device_here....//// should give you the processes which still use the device. kill those and you should be able to eject. also use sync before.

in my eyes an old issue that file-manager do not release / sync removable media.
I only mount / unmout those as root in a command line and thats as fast as using a file-manager. and those file-manger have with every new release a new directory where the "shit" is mounted and thats kinda annoying. the old way is the fastest way and I know instnatly where the stuff is mounted, because I did it.
