Hi All:

Have so far struck out with Google on this.....

I am running this unit on my machine and its working fine except for two problems:
1. it fills up my syslog with junk,
2. It disconnects and requires me to pull the USB cable out and re-insert it before wvdial will find it again.

I want to clean up item 1 first. After that, will dig into item 2.

This is the message showing up in my /var/log/everything/current:
Sep 09 10:42:03 [kernel] [ 3893.247960] No additional sense information
Sep 09 10:42:05 [kernel] [ 3895.262142] 4a 01 00 00 10 00 00 00 08 00

Sep 09 10:42:07 [kernel] [ 3897.316249] No additional sense information

etc....

It seems that even though ppp0 is up, the kernel still wants to believe that the E220 is also a USB storage device.
I'd like to fix that.

I have emerged sys-apps/usb_modeswitch-2.2.0_p2014052 but am not sure:
1. What program calls this?
2. If it needs to be called by hand,
3. What switches to use on it.

On my old laptop I compiled a special program the some chap in Eastern Europe wrote that used to whack the E220 over the head and turn off the storage operation of the unit but I'd like to use a more 'off-the-shelf' solution this time, meaning, usb_modeswitch.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers,
John

Hi All:

Here is my work around:
rmmod uas
rmmod usb_storage

And the messages to syslog stop.

I'd still like to learn how to make use of usb_modswitch.

Any suggestions welcome.

Cheers,
John
