Why did Vikings have 'Allah' embroidered into funeral clothes? - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-41567391

They are probably reading too much into it. Vikings would trade for well made articles of clothing or expensive materials and then be buried with it when they died. Sometimes these took the form of idols from other religions, or, I suppose, clothing embroidered with a god not their own.

The timing of this given the climate surrounding Islamic terrorism is a huge red flag.

It's because of the Norse diversity outreach programme.

Very important to the Vikings that.

He's not made that claim in the article but expect a follow-up article where this claim could appear.

As I'm due to be a minority in these here parts in the not too distance future, metaphorically old JB does as well.

Weren't there still more polytheistic than monotheistic Arabs in the 9th century?

The word "Allah" praedates Islam about as much as "God" does. It was originally the word that was used for the chief God of the Arabic polytheistic pantheon, then it came to be used by monotheistic religions for the one supreme God. It's gotten a bit of a "Muslim" connotation in English over the years but like the Arabic bible translations also just use it.

Don't see any real evidence that in the 9th century it would be "Muslim" usage, could as easily be Arab Christians or Arab polytheists.

So, pre-extremistic muslims? Which ended up using the fathwa after the 11th.

Exactly. Just like the Japanese wear T-shirts that say shit like "flower shine bunny". The traded for some nice robes. Big surprise. Egyptian glass beads are found in scandic graves a thousand years older.
