I'm just noticing that distccmon-gui isn't reporting the distributed compiles. While I've recently switched from gcc 4 to 6, I can't say that's related since I haven't used this in a while.

Code:
DISTCCMON_DIR=/var/tmp/portage/.distcc/ distccmon-gui

This pops up a nice window with basically nothing in it (no jobs anyway). But when I go to the other machine to check what it's doing with htop, I see a bunch of gcc processes even though I know for a fact I'm the only person logged in and so the only thing it should be compiling is what my first machine is sending to it. Also, conky's networking monitor shows a lot of bursts of activity as well, so I'm pretty sure that it's being distributed. Finally, a couple of merges have failed, and the log files do reference distcc complaining that compilation failed on the other node, retrying locally, and that also failing. (Those failures are completely separate issues from this post, for the purposes of this thread, it's just evidence that says distcc is actually working even if distccmon-gui doesn't show it.)

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should be looking to get distccmon-gui to work again?

Just as another point of reference, changing "-gui" to "-text 1" in the above command just gets a new line printed out every second, no other text, so it's functionally the same as the gui version.

Code:
# grep -i DISTCC /etc/portage/make.conf
FEATURES="distlocks protect-owned sandbox distcc

so I'm not overriding anything here other than just including distcc as one of the features.

Thanks for any advice,
