Hi,

I'm running in to some compilation errors I can't really classify. It seems like sth. CFLAGS related... however, let's start from beginning:

I am trying to build chromium on an old Thinkpad x60 with an Intel Core Duo Processor:
Code:
/ # grep /proc/cpuinfo -e "model name" -e flags
model name   : Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo CPU      L2500  @ 1.83GHz
flags      : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe nx constant_tsc arch_perfmon bts cpuid aperfmperf pni monitor vmx est tm2 xtpr pdcm dtherm

The system has 3 GB of RAM, which appears to bejust below the required 3 GiB and I have to set
Code:
I_KNOW_WHAT_I_AM_DOING=1
. However, I don't think that's the problem, as there is plenty of swap available. The system has been built with make.conf as follows:
Code:
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium-m -pipe -msse3 -fomit-frame-pointer"
CPU_FLAGS_X86="mmx mmxext sse sse2 sse3"
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
MAKEOPTS="-j3"
USE="acl alsa cups consolekit device-mapper evdev lvm ncurses nls nntp nsplugin\
 pulseaudio samba slang ssl udev unicode usb vhosts -X"

FEATURES="ccache"
CCACHE_SIZE="7G"

VIDEO_CARDS="intel i915"
INPUT_DEVICES="evdev libinput synaptics"

# NOTE: This stage was built with the bindist Use flag enabled
PORTDIR="/usr/portage"
DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles"
PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages"

# This sets the language of build output to English.
# Please keep this setting intact when reporting bugs.

GENTOO_MIRRORS="rsync://ftp.fi.muni.cz/pub/linux/gentoo/ rsync://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/gentoo/"

When I ran into the error, I emptied CPU_FLAGS_X86 and CFLAGS, so /var/tmp/portage/www-client/chromium-70.0.3538.67/temp/environment looks as follows:
Code:

declare -x ABI="x86"
declare -x ABI_MIPS=""
declare -x ABI_PPC=""

declare -x ABI_X86="32"
declare -x ADAFLAGS=""

declare -x CHOST_default="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
declare -x CHOST_x86="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
.
Full environment can be found here, however unsetting those variables didn't help. The error looks as follows:

Code:

Some more of the build log can be found here, though I didn't put up all of it. Any Ideas? Any wrong settings / CFLAGS? A bug? Any hint is appreciated :)

Hey!
It might be of help to see emerge --info of that host.
As a matter of facts, I beleave I saw somewhere that Chrome or Chromium where dropping 32 bits compat..
Although I have a funny fealing you'll need to switch to a newer version of the compiler.

Hi,

chrome is no longer for 32bit since a while, chromium should be still working.

Here is emerge --info:

Code:

Strangely the CFLAGS and ccache are not disabled in this output, I did however using package.env. Maybe it's not package specific.

I'm using gcc-7.3.0-r3, same version as on another 64 Bit system - there it works with chromium-70.0.3538.67 (which is stable on 64...)

Hi fedeliallalinea,

it seems that the issue with vector_math and sse2 you mentioned has been fixed upstream in chromium. Do you think I am running into something similar and should write a bug report upstream? Or for the gentoo package?

So, let's see where this leads:
