I have a AMD RYZEN 5 2600 6-Core 3.4 GHz with a Asus Rock AB350 Pro 4 motherboard. I am slowly getting Gentoo installed on it. But I have found when I boot up the 2016 AMD64 live DVD(on usb) my system will randomly freeze. I thought it was due to energy savings because it froze after being idle for a few hours. But last night it froze while I was using the browser. There is no way to check the dmesg since everything is frozen(including the mouse).

Anyone know.... is there a issue with the kernel and Ryzen cpus or is this most likely a hardware issue on my system?

Look at this one : https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1083508-highlight-.html
I remember also a thread from Chiitoo about freeze issue : https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8136170.html#8136170

I have a similar system and I have had to work through a few little freeze issues. What I've done to get it as wonderfully stable as it now is:

gentoo-sources-4.20.16 am using znver1, O2, pipe for gcc. (system is stable on other kernels as well)
memtested and torture tested from SysRescueCD before installing OS.
Disable Cstates in bios
Set Power Supply Idle Control to "typical", not "low"
I have OPCache enabled
Increased SOC voltage to 1.15
Set dram voltage to 1.35
ram is specced at 3200 CL14 but due to being dual-ranked will only run XMP at 3000GHz.
Make sure that any undervolt applied in bios does not lower idle cpu voltage below .75v. .72v caused freezes.
I am using both PBO and XFR
System is also a rock in Windows10.
