Hello,
Do Stage3 archives for 17.1 profiles exist? If not, are they going to be generated in near future?
I've just zeroed out my disk, eager to do clean install of 17.1 instead of migrating and it seems that I have to do the migration anyway even when it's just for the Stage3 :(
Thanks

You would have to check the contents and see if it points to 17.1. Honestly the migration is super quick and most likely faster then a clean install. Im guessing it took little more then an hr due to rebuilding gcc and the 32bit parts, but I was already on 17.0 running ~amd64. Here is a link of others discussion via reddit also if interested https://www.reddit.com/r/Gentoo/comments/bx5xpi/amd64_171_profiles_are_now_stable/

Is it possible to install 17.1 right away from stage3? Or do I need to install 17.0, then migrate manually to 17.1?
This would be a lot of additional work, considering that it's a fresh install.

I dowloaded latest stage3 and seems yet with symlink (17.0 profile)
Code:
lrwxrwxrwx  1 user user         5 Jun 10 02:50 lib -> lib64
drwxr-xr-x  2 user user      4096 Jun 10 02:50 lib32
drwxr-xr-x 10 user user      4096 Jun 10 04:16 lib64

For a fresh install its actually not very much work. Well not very much extra work. I do it all from within the chroot before I even boot into the system the first time...same with the move from amd64 to ~amd64. So I cant speak for those that run "stable" instead of testing. But I wouldn't imagine it would be much different. My usual path is to follow the handbook up until kernel build...I build the ~amd64 keyword kernel. Then change my keywords to ~amd64 system wide. Rebuild the toolchain (linux-headers, glibc, binutils-config, binutils, gcc-config, mpfr, mpc, gcc, libtool. Then I'll run a world update to update my whole system to ~amd64. The I'll fo the migration to 17.1. Only have to rebuild the toolchain and sandbox after the migration this way. Then I'll set any abi x86_32 flags I need and world update again. Then follow the rest of the handbook. Gives me a ~amd64 keyworded system using a 17.1 profile on first boot. With what I see as the minimum amount of work. All done from inside the chroot. Works like a charm every single time.
