Specially when gedit or Girefox is open it is at its worst. If I quit gedit or Firefox things are a bit better. Reverting to 5.2.x kernel makes the stuttering vanish and everything is running great.

My 5.2.21 config which works just fine.

The 5.3.8 config which is laggy.

Any ideas?

if you rebuild your kernel (5.3.8) with your 5.2.21-config file and make syncconfig so you can see the changes????

Well, I have always upgraded my kernel the same way. In fact, for over a decade. I do,

Code:

$ cd /usr/src/linux
$ cp .config ~/kern-config-backup
$ git clean -dfx && git reset --hard
$ git checkout tags/v5.3.8
& cp ~/kern-config-backup .config

Then, if I want the config file to get updated with the changes from the new kernel automatically

Code:

$ make menconfig

And, save and exit. When I diff the kernel I see the changes:

Code:

$ diff -urN ~/kern-config-backup .config

Or, if I want to do it manually and being asked for the options one by one, simply:

Code:

$ make

It detects the old kernel config, and automatically runs make --sysconfig and asks Y/N whatever questions. I never had any issues with this.
