That's probably because you are using Funtoo instead of Gentoo. Unfortunately I know nothing about Funtoo, so I can't help on this...

TolyProg,

net-print/hplip-3.18.4 is no longer in the ::gentoo repo.

Code:
git log -- net-print/hplip/hplip-3.18.4.ebuild

commit 121ba8c08e040df0b597eeea40ac2f62d35d13bc
Author: Daniel Pielmeier <billie@gentoo.org>
Date:   Thu Jun 21 19:38:19 2018 +0200

    net-print/hplip: Remove old.

    Package-Manager: Portage-2.3.40, Repoman-2.3.9

commit 22b0d2aa4fc2196e4b22d497a9e096bd13797240
Author: Daniel Pielmeier <billie@gentoo.org>
Date:   Sun May 20 12:28:33 2018 +0200

    net-print/hplip: Version bump.

    Package-Manager: Portage-2.3.24, Repoman-2.3.6

It looks like it was removed on 21 Jun 2018. You may find the old ebuild file hplip-3.18.4.ebuild on an out of date server on the internet.
Its also possible get the ebuild out of git.

You need to learn about using a local overlay if you want to keep old ebuilds around like this.
Funtoo is not Gentoo, the above may not work for you.

TolyProg,

Code:
Error during device I/O
means something went wrong with the communications

Pleas copy/paste messages, not retype. There is at least one error in the line you posted.

TolyProg,

Code:
hpaio:/usb
isn't that supposed to be a double slash?
Code:
hpaio://usb
?

-- Edit --

Nope, a single / appears to be correct.

What is the output of
Code:
hp-check -rt
put it onto a pastebin.

As this question is about Funtoo, and I know nothing about that, but one comment that may help: as far as I know, hplip is all python. The original problem symptom was an address boundary exception, which means something wrong in a library or perhaps the kernel, not python code.
