On my laptop, to make the power button work it seems that acpid is needed. Everything else completely works without.

From dmesg I get this information
Quote:
$ dmesg | grep 'Power Button'
[ 0.208265] input: Power Button as /devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXPWRBN:00/input/input2
[ 0.208270] ACPI: Power Button [PWRF]
Isn't there some kernel option to enable the power button? Having acpid in default runlevel, only for shutdown seems a little strange for me.
Any ideas?

acpid is needed for much more as your power button (when it is needed for that)

you definitely want it for a desctop machine.

when you want a general descritiption about acpi please check the internet for it, e.g. http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/ACPI

Removed acpid from this laptop some years ago and the only thing I'm missing is the power button.
But maybe one day I will invest some hours for investigating about a suitable setup of laptop-mode-tools along with acpi.
Thanks for your help.
