I have a intel_hda soundcard, using the following drivers:
Code:

lsmod |grep hda
snd_hda_codec_via      19239  1
snd_hda_codec_generic    49601  2 snd_hda_codec_via
snd_hda_intel          28463  0
snd_hda_codec          76005  3 snd_hda_codec_via,snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_intel
snd_hwdep               5916  1 snd_hda_codec

And when I set up my system for the first time, even with all the drivers loaded, I couldn't get the sound work by any means, even when I opened alsamixer, it showed the soundcard and all its sliders, but I had no sound output at all.

Then I found online a /etc/asound.conf file and put it on my system:
Code:

pcm.!default {
        type hw
        card 1
}

ctl.!default {
        type hw
        card 0
}

And everything magically worked!

Now I have successfully set up my nvidia gtx 860M with nvidia drivers (without bumblebee/primus) and would like my hdmi sound to work. It even shows up anda my alsamixer as a soundcard, but its missing the sliders and all.

Does anybody know how to set it up? Does it need an entry in asound.conf? Does it work using bumblebee/primus? Thanks in advance.

Just an update, I can see intel hdmi on alsa list, and I can select it on programs like smplayer, but there is no sound at all:

Code:

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 3: ID 2807 Digital [ID 2807 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: VT1802 Analog [VT1802 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 2: VT1802 Alt Analog [VT1802 Alt Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Any hints?

I'd like to be as well of as you, sir, but I cannot even get my TV to register anything when I connect HDMI. Did you have to add a Monitor section to your XOrg config? My config is almost identical to that of the nvidia documentation, and I am currently using the nvidia drivers with the tweak for intel to minimize screen tearing.
