Hi all.
Today I tried to install Gentoo on my laptop - Dell Inspiron 3542 (Core i3, 500 Gb HDD, 4 GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 820M). But I stick with strange problem and could not find any working solution.
At first, I build my kernel with
Code:
genkernel --menuconfig all
(I enabled Nouveau driver for my kernel). After reboot to my newly installed system boot process hangs and I saw this errors: http://goo.gl/m7nJST

I googled a lot, I tried next kernel options:

  • acpi=off
  • pci=noacpi
  • acpi_os_name="Microsoft Windows NT"
  • acpi_osi="!Windows2012"

Also, I recompiled kernel with code for Dell notebooks compiled in kernel ("Dell extras"). My kernel either show me above bug or show me stacktrace (when I tried acpi=off).

At least, I found, what I should fix my DSDT. I dumped original DSDT, disassembled it and got a lot of errors after compilation.

My dsdt.dsl file: http://codetidy.com/5501/

Unfortunately, I'm not guru of AML and I couldn't fix all errors - I was getting more errors when I tried to compile "fixed" source file.

P.S. By default, Ubuntu was installed on this notebook. This Linux successully loads and works in the store but I want to use Gentoo not Ubuntu ^_^.

P.P.S. It may be interesting - Linux kernel from Gentoo LiveCD boots correctly. I also tried to use config from this kernel but after reboot I got the same error.

You can boot into the livecd, chroot into the system and install pciutils and usbutils
to see what drivers you need in your kernel
Code:
# emerge pciutils
# lspci
# emerge usbutils
# lsusb
