Hello,
glibc-2.20 fails to emerge with:

Code:

sys-libs/glibc-2.20/work/build-x86-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-nptl/sunrpc/cross-rpcgen: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error

Any Ideas?

As with any compilation problem report, please post the output of emerge --info sys-libs/glibc. Please also post the output of file
sys-libs/glibc-2.20/work/build-x86-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-nptl/sunrpc/cross-rpcgen
.

No Problem:

Code:

emerge --info sys-libs/glibc

Blind guess : multilib building of glibc with a kernel without 32bits support? Hence when some part try to run 32bits code, you get exec format error.

That seems likely, although his old build of glibc has multilib support enabled. The output of file that I requested above should help us confirm. OP: please provide that, and also the output of zgrep IA32 /proc/config.gz.

Appearently the missing 32bit binary support was the reason for the emerge to fail. So thank you for pointing me into the right direction. What puzzles me is that I disabled IA32 support many months ago and all glibc emerges after then until up to current version 2.20 went w/o problems.

thank you so much all of you, "CONFIG_IA32_EMULATION=y" solve my issues.
