I have been trying to setup device management with busybox's mdev
during my init however, the following command

echo /sbin/mdev > /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug

yields this error:

cannot create /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug: nonexistent directory

I cannot find config_hotplug in my kernel
I'm using:
3.16.1-gentoo

thanks

Some suggestions...

Make sure procfs is mounted?
All plug and play options enabled?

I don't think I know what the pnp options are
so could you please provide me with a list?
or would you rather I post my .config file here?
