I have installed gentoo on vmware once but ifconfig shows only lo,I want to reinstall it,but I don't know which Ethernet Controller to choose when configure the kernel,my controller is "intel corporation 82545EM gigabit Ethernet Controller (copper)", I don't good at hardware,anyone can help me? thanks

Hi maypearl,

I've never installed nor used vmware but maybe this might help:
When in your gentoo environment execute
Code:
lspci -n
as root and paste the output here: http://kmuto.jp/debian/hcl/. This will give you a list of your hardware and the corresponding modules.

Hope this helps! But I don't know if this works within vmware...

I input my network card info into this website but it seems that no respond information to my hardware.

OK, the only other thing I'd do was to build simply all ethernet-modules. After a reboot you can take a look which modules are in use and take the unneeded modules out (if you want to).

Try CONFIG_E1000 and/or CONFIG_E1000E.
