I have some kind of strange issue here. I built my kernel with my system hadware support built into the kernel, but with modules for many other things in case I ever need them. However, now that I am in my system, I see things that were compiled as modules loaded. This includes btrfs and parport. I do not use btrfs nor do I have a parallel port on my laptop. Why were these modules loaded? They are used by 0.

Also, I built modules for IP tunneling and such, but "ifconfig -a" shows over a page of interfaces after a fresh boot. These are not built into my kernel. I have things like sit0, tunl0, ip_vti0, gretap0, and more. Are these just place-holder which will become active if I start using them?

If you don't want a module to be loaded you could blacklist it in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and add blacklist name-of-module
