Hello,

I have a bootable set up with genkernel's --disklabel option. Some places say that udev is needed as well but so far I've been able to boot without the udev option.

What does the --udev option add to genkernel?

thank you.

Where are you seeing this "--udev" option? It's not in the manpage and it's not in the --help output.

This option appears in this page http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Systemd#In_kernel_config at the section Using LVM2 and Initramfs

The "--udev" option is used by genkernel-next but is not used by genkernel.
