i just installed gentoo for the first time and it seems something went wrong as i can't get my net working. when chrooted from inst media, ifconfig outputs 2 interfaces (enp3s0 & lo). rebooting into the new system there's only lo (same goes to ls /sys/class/net). tried symlinking net.eth0 and adding it to default runlevel, didn't help. also, there's no /etc/conf.d/net at all, so as for my understanding dhcpc has nothing to work with in the first place. pls help, thx in advance!

here's the mistake. symlink enp3s0 instead - this is how your kernel sees that device
Or disable so-called "persistent" names. They cause a lot of confusion and are only arguable usefull if you have multiple network devices. You seem to only have one, so it's useless.

I bellieve the above will solve your problem, but just in case it failed, 'lspci -nnk' would be a good starting point for troubleshooting

vladdrak,

linuxfoundation.org says
Code:
The alx driver provide support for:
    1969:1091 - AR8161 Gigabit Ethernet

Notice the Vendor and Device IDs match
Code:
03:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 Gigabit Ethernet [1969:1091] (rev 10)

That means you need the alx driver configured in your kernel.
Code:
# cd /usr/src/linux
# grep ALX .config
# CONFIG_ALX is not set
means you need to redo your kernel.
