Hello everyone,

I'm a little sad: i'm trying to put a dual boot window/gentoo (window is already installed, 8.1).
But i even can't have internet...
First time i try to install gentoo, so if someone can explain me or show me some documentation i'll be thanksfull.
The main problem is that my nic is not named eth0 but enp2s0 (because of udev i read).
I have tried a lot of things, about net.lo, config.d etc...
But nothing worked, so if somebody can help me to start to understand how gentoo works, because i don't see a thing.

Thanks

Celes ... I assume you mean while booting the minimal install CD? Have you tried 'net-setup enp2s0'? That should be enough, otherwise you might use sysrescuecd for install purposes ... though it seems the NIC is recognised (so, not a driver issue).

Thanks for your answer
I'll try sysrescuecd as soon as possible, but my laptop is dismantled for now.
And yes i have tried net-setup, pppoe etc...
For net-setup, it said that the live cd missed some files, but it launch the configuration. However i was'nt still able too use links or ping.

Thanks for all

Celes ... missing "firmware"? If this is the case then you should try with sysrescuecd.

My laptop is back, so i have check again about net-setup.
It says : try basename --help for more information
basename: mising operand
cat : /sys/class/net/lo:/address: no such file or directory
and this message is the same for /sys/class/net/enp2s0;/address, /sys/class/net/wlp3s0:/address

If you can explain me that ^^
For now i will try to do something with networks tools of sysrescuecd.

Celes ... "missing operand" means no parameter/string is supplied, your using 'net-setup enp2s0' correct? Anyhow, I've never used net-setup so I can't say if it functions or not.

The following is all that should be required to bring up the ethernet device (using dhcp to aquire the address) ...

Code:
# ln -s /etc/init.d/net.lo /etc/init.d/net.enp2s0
# /etc/init.d/net.enp2s0 start

If this doesn't work, or you need to configure the IP manually, ask. Alternately, try using sysrescuecd (as it provides a GUI and a 'applet' for configuring the network).
