Hi,

I tested my Memoery intensively and found out one single adress arround 22900 MB is broken. memtest86, not memtest86+ tells me that.

Have 32 GB in my i5 Haswell-System included. Z97 Chipset on Gigabyte Mainbaord.

I am booting with uefi and grub2.

I want to tell linux not to use ram around this adress and added memmap=8M$22896M

And then after initramfs starts I only get a black screen.

I deleted this parameter and System boots like a charm.

Who Do I use memmap with uefi system with gentoo correctly?

Alexander

Ok,

seems to boot now with kernel parameter "memmap=8M#22896M add_efi_memmap" added

so "#" instead of "$" which marcs memory as used for ACPI.

Before I got:
[ 0.000000] Memory: 32101120K/32937952K available (7506K kernel code, 834K rwdata, 2412K rodata, 1040K init, 900K bss, 836832K reserved)

After I get:
[ 0.000000] Memory: 32092904K/32929760K available (7506K kernel code, 834K rwdata, 2416K rodata, 1044K init, 904K bss, 836856K reserved)

Which is indeed 8192KB less memory.

If now system is stable and works I will mark this a s solved.
