From what I can see, either leaving it on the default profile 1 and adding flags to package.use or using the Profile 2 which is for a desktop, which sort of defeats the purpose of the system.

If it were you which would you go for ?

FizzyWidget ... I always use default/linux/x86/13.0 regardless of if its a desktop or server ... make.conf and package.use will then be used to fine grain. The desktop profiles I've never had any need of as I don't use kde/gnome.

I only use profile 2 if I use XFCE, I will leave it using profile 1 and tweak it as needed, just seems they removed the server profile, when many people use Gentoo as a server

FizzyWidget ... oh, I see, well, as I remember it was removed because there was nothing specific to it (it was a duplicate of default/linux/x86/13.0).
