Hello,

I am trying to set up a samba share on linux to be used with M$$$ 7 under qemu.

I have a few questions:

- Is the built-in qemu option useful and does it depend on host samba configuration?

- Is it better to configure a share folder under linux? (preliminary search results claim that m$$7 under qemu detects host samba)

- What's share strategy is better to use?

For the last question I'd like to expand from what I understand so far.

There are several ways of sharing that have different convenience levels:

- by using m$$'s guest account, possibly most convenient and easy set up:

Code:

|shared|
   comment = Shared Folder
   path = /home/user/shared
   browseable = yes
   guest ok = yes
   guest only = yes
   writable = yes
   force user = nobody
   force group = shared
   create mask = 0770

- by using a fully configured shared with user, password etc. More complicated.

I am getting these mixed up because for the last one some places mention about creating a linux account exclusively for the samba share then give that user permission etc.

The problem with this is about organization.

Should I share a single folder? Should I share the exclusive shared user /home/sharinguser, should I share via /mnt/shared mount point?

What've noticed that sharing a folder on the host home directory is tricky due to permissions set up to the host.

Can anyone share a good strategy and not too complicated for moving files across linux <-> m$$?

To be honest I get by using a very backward way with several steps involved but is not useful at all in other scenarios, like for a friend. I'd like to get with modern times.

thanks

My pick on this would be FTP. I know, I know, it sucks, but it is supported, takes no configuration and it works, so why bother with samba?

mmm... I thought ftp was outdated and was on its way out.

So do you have an example to set up host/qemu(with m$$7)?

thanks
