Hello,
I can't seem to convince grub2-mkconfig to generate a config file that uses a UUID for the root filesystem.

I am using LVM and it will use root=/dev/mapper/vg_ssd-lv_root, which is correct and will work, but I would prefer it to use the UUID instead. (I plan to be making some disk changes soon.)

I can manually change the config file, but I would be happier if this would work properly.

I have added GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=false and GRUB_DEVICE_UUID="1916e486-75bd-4f80-aa7f-28eae14e1072" to /etc/default/grub, but it still won't work.

Thanks.

Hello, i have the same problem, after installing some package (i don't know which) grub2-mkconfig stop using root=UUID=xxx and always write root=/dev/sdx. Do you have solution?
Thank you.

Nevermind, i looked into the script:
Code:
    # "UUID=" and "ZFS=" magic is parsed by initrd or initramfs.  Since there's
    # no initrd or builtin initramfs, it can't work here.

Sorry for bothering.

Have you tried using PARTUUID?

It's kernel-level, so doesn't need anything from userspace, though not sure how it goes with root on lvm.

IME that's always needed an initrd (nka initramfs.)
