I m just wondering what's an easy and simple setup to put 2 till 3 SSD (or SAS) drives of a capacity of about 240 GB till 600 GB together into one file system (no RAID wanted) ?

toralf,

mdadm - linear raid.
lvm - as a single volume group
btrfs if you will keep backups. Its not ready for prime time yet.

I think that they are all extendable too.

lvm wins as you can shrink it (space permitting) and remove a drive if you want to.

Computer users fall into two groups:-
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.
