I have an HP Vectra, P4 1.7Ghz that I've bene using as a tinkerbox. It worked fine with 3.18 until I recently broke the system to where I figured it would be eaiser to start over. This install went just fine, but when I rebooted, lilo cme up fine, the kernel loaded, and immediately after printing "Bios data check successful", it rebooted. It booted the old install fine, it ran memtest86 for a full test cycle, and it boots the liveboot CD just fine. What in the kernel could do this?

Actually, I think I figured this one out. The "memtest" config was enabled, and so I guess the kernel was running its memtest routines, which was causing the machine to immediately reboot. My old 286 has a Norton Utilities program that whenever you try to run a memory test it just reboots it.
