Hi, i am having a kinda weird issue. on the amd64 boot cd's i am not getting any ip address from my router. I have made sure the network card module is loaded. and when running net-setup it sees the card though it wont pull an IP address. network card is r8169 It works fine in Windows.

Though if I use an x86 (which is an older one from around 2013) disk it gets the ip no problem. Would it be possible to run the amd64 setup with the x86 install? or will that cause issues? Also i have manually tried to set the ip address as on my network it uses static IP's based on the mac address of the network cards, still no IP address.

I'd suggest get as much of an install working on the 64-bit system and use (or even install) the 32-bit system for downloading files (You'll need to at least grab the portage tree and stuff like kernel files, stage3 if necessary, etc.).

Maybe you'll need to file a bug that the Ethernet driver doesn't work with the 64 bit kernel, but that seems a bit strange... my r8169 on my 64-bit machines appear to work, then again I did not use the livecd-64bit.

ya im not 100% sure whats going on as it trys to get an IPv6 IP address then it switches down to IPv4 then gets a weird IP that is not associated with the network.

just looked at the logs when it boots up it has a kernel panic... along with a trace when it trys to start the network.... it goes thru and starts off with watchdog. instead of me trying to type the whole thing and spelling stuff wrong and not getting the whole thing you can view an image of it here.
