Loimpress is really slow in my boxes (Core(TM)2 Duo), and this article pointed me to pinpoint. I must say I am really impresses on the easiness and effectiveness of pinpoint. Nevertheless, I wonder if anyone has another recommendation for linux presentations, or tried any of the Akkana Peck recommendations.

Cheers!

Curious, Staroffice/Openoffice/Libreoffice has traditionally been very slow at least to load due to its immense size, but I've felt, even on relatively recent machines including the Core2 duo, at least the last time I tried it, it's not that bad to load. Perhaps it's because I've suffered through it when I had a P5 running Linux with 16MB RAM, those days when "Eight Megs And Constantly Swaps" meant that editor was shunned for vi.

How bad is it to load loimpress? Could it be a machine problem?

Thanks for the answer!

It is slow because these are big presentations, from 50 to 70 slides. Moving a set of slides within the presentation takes ages in loimpress. With pinpoint, the presentation is written in a text file, so it is possible to write the presentation in vim. Nevertheless, I wonder if somebody has tried something different. For example, a friend of mine mentioned reveal.js, and the presentations can be seen in slides.

Cheers!
