How do you switch from radeon to fglrx? I followed the gentoo wiki but it's still showing the drivers for my ati as "radeon". Plus I can't get back in to openbox. It says "no screen found"

You mention the wiki; is https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Fglrx the article you used?
What does
Code:
lspci | grep -i vga
identify as your video card's make and model? Do you have more than one video card?
Does your /etc/portage/make.conf contain VIDEO_CARDS="fglrx" and INPUT_DEVICES="evdev" (INPUT_DEVICES="evdev synaptics" for touchpad).
Does your kernel configuration (as shown in menuconfig) (for an HD5000 or newer card) contain (omitted choices are as important as enabled choices):

Did you recompile the kernel and save it to /boot with the choices above and the boot partition mounted (if you have one)?
Did you then
Code:
emerge -1av xorg-server ati-drivers xf86-input-evdev
successfully? Does
Code:
eselect opengl list
show ati * selected?
Does
Code:
eselect opencl list
show amd * selected?
Did you reboot to the new kernel?
Code:
uname -a
Code:
will tell all about the running kernel.
If problems persist use wgetpaste to pastebin the content of /usr/src/linux/.config, /var/log/Xorg.0.log, /var/log/dmesg and post the url's here.
