So this is kind of embarrassing.
I'm not an 'advanced' user, but think I am advanced enough to know roughly what I am doing, so please bare with me here. I have set up gentoo on virtualbox to see how deep the deep end really is - if you will - then I just booted by selecting the gentoo kernel (after pressing F1) and I am unsure as to what to do next. I have looked at the handbook, but the problem is that .... uh, I don't actually know where I am. I just selected the gentoo kernel, and that was it. It went through loads of text and then left me with a 'livecd ~ #' command thingo (can't remember what it's called). What do I do next? How do I finish my install and set up a window manager?
By the title of the command thingo, it would seem that I am still running off the virtual .iso file.
Thanks for helping me, sorry for the retardedness :)

Welcome to the deep end.
You are the installer and the handbook is your guide.

bolognie1,

Welorme to Gentoo.

Code:
livecd ~ #
is indeed the prompt frow the liveCD.
You need to tell virtualbox to boot from the guest hard drive.

Its probably good enough to issue the command
Code:
shutdown -h now
at the prompt, then in the storage settings for your VM, remove the *.iso fcom the virtual CD drive, or even uncheck the LiveCD/DVD box.

When you start the VM again, it will try to start your Gentoo.

Don't worry about the deep end, you only swim in the top 18 inches of water anyway.
