Hi, I've just tried to boot with recent cd and usb-stick on laptop without optical device inside.
It's able to load usb-install device, but then it disconnects media during loading system:

something like:
Code:
!! Media not found
!! Could not find CD to boot, something else needed?
>> Determining root device...
!! Could not find the root block device in .
!! Please specify another value or:
!! - press Enter for the same
!! - type "shell" for a shell
!! - type "q" to skip...
root block device() :: _

Older SysRescueCD works flawlessly, but my question is - is there a way to boot like that with standard Gentoo liveCD?

I've never had problems booting with both usb-DVD+RW device and usb-stick - always minimally one of them worked well.

My actual motivation is to repair gentoo installation after system shutdown while update.

Thanks in advance

DeIM,

Just use System Rescue CD. Its Gentoo based.

Thanks it's a solution.
But still... is there guarantee that newer versions of System Rescue CD will still boot fine where gentoo minimal CD won't?

Actually, it's *the* solution for two reasons.

1. You were, after all, trying to recover a broken system. :D
2. Neddy said so.

Guarantee, I guess: it is a 'system rescue cd' and will cease to be that if it can't boot (at least) a minimal shell environment on pretty much any system a regular user is likely to encounter.
