I made a copy of my Gentoo on another partition + renamed it to gentoo2. I want this 'new' version to appear in the grub menu so I can choose the Gentoo to start.

so,

sda2: kernel files of gentoo1
sda3: swap
sda4: rootfs1
sda5: rootfs2
sda6: kernel files of gentoo2

I did something like
gub2-install /dev/sda
grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

the gentoo2 appears in the menu but just starts the first Gentoo.

What am I doing wrong ?

skorefish,

I suspect your /etc/fstab in gentoo2 still describes gentoo1. You need to fix that.
You should also change the hostname in gentoo2, so you can tell from the console which install you are in.

If you want to, you can share the portage tree and distfiles between installs but its not a good idea to share packages as with two installs, its only a matter of time until your USE flags diverge.
