If it's on the overview or in the TL;DR then it's available.

If you used the official documentation, then testing is as easy as:

Code:
layman --sync-all
layman --add dantrell-gnome-3-22
eselect profile set dantrell-gnome:default/amd64/3.22
emerge --ask --update --deep --changed-use --with-bdeps=y @world

That said, the Quality of Life improvements for GNOME Files (Nautilus) has been completed.

ups!

* Adding overlay...
* Exception: Overlay "dantrell-gnome-3-22" does not exist.

* CLI: Errors occurred processing action add
* Exception: Overlay "dantrell-gnome-3-22" does not exist.

use this way to work

1/ add
Direct Installation

/etc/portage/repos.conf/dantrell-gnome-3-22.conf

Code:
[dantrell-gnome-3-22]

# Dantrell B.'s Gentoo Overlay for GNOME (3.22)
# Maintainer: Dantrell B. (email: see CONTRIBUTING.md in main GitHub project)
# Homepage: https://github.com/dantrell/gentoo-project-gnome-without-systemd

location = /usr/local/portage/dantrell-gnome-3-22
sync-type = git
sync-uri = https://github.com/dantrell/gentoo-overlay-dantrell-gnome-3-22.git
priority = 100
auto-sync = yes

2/ emaint sync -a

3/select profile

[32] dantrell-gnome:default/amd64/3.22/extended *

4/ update

now ready gnome 3.22, the only mistake was that I had to skip dev-cpp / gtkmm to send him to package.mask and leave the previous version

(error
Code:

checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for GTK... yes
checking for GDKMM... no

Requested 'gdk-pixbuf-2.0 >= 2.35.5' but version of GdkPixbuf is 2.34.0

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables GDKMM_CFLAGS
and GDKMM_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

See you later as upgrade that package.

If Layman finds nothing at all it's because it's not picking up the project repositories.xml file (which must be properly indented in /etc/layman/layman.cfg).

At4ri wrote:

I did some more testing and found out that the official (and Wiki) instructions only work with Layman 2.3.0 or greater on NEW installs. Older versions or upgraded versions require some more configuration. I have updated the documentation accordingly.

Installation under Layman should work now but you can keep using the direct method if you want.

I added x11-libs/gdk-pixbuf-2.36.0.

I am using gentoo in its version ~ amd64 therefore I have layman in its latest version and sync-plugin-portage and activated git from the beginning I could not make visible the repository but direct way. (I edit the wiki official website or page perso al?) I'll try to correct that mistake I still do not understand. The rest works wonders!

Tnx!

You probably need to rebuild the config files and then re-add the project repositories.xml file. Doing:

Code:
grep "conf_type :" /etc/layman/layman.cfg

should output:

Quote:
conf_type : repos.conf

All I can think of is to do the steps to prepare over from scratch to rebuild /etc/layman/layman.cfg and /etc/portage/repos.conf/layman.conf:

Code:
cp -a /etc/layman/layman.cfg /etc/layman/layman.cfg.bak
mv /etc/portage/repos.conf /etc/portage/repos.conf.bak
layman-updater --rebuild

You also need to re-add the project repositories.xml file to /etc/layman/layman.cfg and if you use /etc/portage/repos.conf/gentoo.conf you'll have to copy it back (and edit if needed). Then:

Code:
layman --fetch
layman --list | grep dantrell
layman --list-local | grep dantrell

I can't reproduce your problem if I do it from scratch. If you still have errors I need the full output and the command you used. Even better, document the whole process of rebuilding the config files (you can email me the logs if you don't want to post it).

It might take time for me to respond because I'm about to take a road trip. Things are stable enough right now anyway *knocks on wood*.

TXS! I hope :) 3.24.

Glad you figured it out. I'll see about improving the official documentation some more.

It's very likely, but for now GNOME 3.22.1 is available for testing. Two of the same (minor) issues remain:
  • GNOME Session cannot run inside Xephyr without extra work
  • GNOME Control Center > User Accounts will Segmentation Fault
Everything else works but I consider 3.22.1 to be "beta".

thanks for everything. I hope the update when it becomes available. And then I think that years ago the gentoo wiki this neglected not say whether this case if not for everything from installation to any type of configuration. I hope not end up like slackware.

I'm having trouble with 2 packages: NetworkManager and libnotify.

The first one has been failing to build for a while, but I've been kinda busy to report. Here's the failing part:

libnotify seems simple enough, NetworkManager probably isn't a straightforward.

Thanks in advance!

*Edit* - I'm on the dantrell-gnome:default/amd64/3.20 profile btw.

x11-libs/libnotify-0.7.7 was corrected a few days ago (with 0.7.7-r1) and net-misc/networkmanager-1.0.12-r1 just now.

Sync up and you should be good to go.

Since you didn't share the logs, I'm guessing you are on ~ and this is because of app-misc/ca-certificates.

Make sure you are synced up because there is now a temporary mask in place which downgrades that package since it removes the StartCom certificate which GNOME still uses.

If GNOME packages are listed before app-misc/ca-certificates when updating @world then downgrade first:

Code:
emerge --ask --nodeps --oneshot app-misc/ca-certificates

no case I spend the day trying but if not one is another, now is the cdra package (which depends on networkmanager) which fails. At the same time install on a pc in their field gentoo amd64 ~ plasma and I walked out in the first. It's a shame but not if they are no longer many patches affecting gnome to avoid systemd. I leave an image of the error.

This has nothing to do with the project overlays. There are just issues with ~ right now.

For issues downloading, see Gentoo bug #598072

For net-wireless/crda, see Gentoo bugs #597744 and #597710.

If you have other issues and the affected package is not in the project overlays then the problem is probably the main portage tree and you should check Gentoo's bug tracker first.

I got an error when I enable desktop icons:

http://i.imgur.com/7lClM7b.png

Code:
$ nautilus

(nautilus:5246): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: <broken file>:1:0: Failed to import: The resource at '/org/gnome/libgd/tagged-entry/default.css' does not exist
**
ERROR:nautilus-canvas-container.c:6128:finish_adding_new_icons: assertion failed: (!container->details->auto_layout)
Aborted

The warning happens with or without that option active, the error only happens when the option is turned on.

If you need any more info, let me know.

Your reported issues should be fine now.

saboya wrote:

I can't reproduce this on any GNOME release version (which one are you using?), although that's probably because my test installs start with an near-empty ~ directory.

If you recently updated but didn't restart X you might want to try restarting GNOME Shell (ALT-F2 r).

If you are not using the Adwaita theme, try reselecting what you have and restarting GNOME Shell.

If you want to rule out my patchset try rebuilding nautilus with:

/etc/portage/package.use/gnome:
gnome-base/nautilus vanilla-rename

and testing it again:

Code:
nautilus --quit
nautilus

My guess is that you have a configuration problem.

I can't reproduce this on any GNOME release version (which one are you using?), although that's probably because my test installs start with an near-empty ~ directory.

I'm on 3.20.2.

I will try your suggestions and report later on it. Thanks!

After several days I could finish installing gnome without the shit systemd, on the other hand although the bugs were were not without systemd gnome project but they were all the dependencies.
Now I have another question since plasma does not add and openrc-setingsd look at the forum and look for information and did not find much and it is not clear what their purpose or what is the best way to configure and turn says rc must rename it.

Is this a new GLib build or a rebuild because of the ABI_X86 changes triggered by Wine? If so, does (or did) GLib build with the default USE flags and now fails with the ABI_X86 changes?

If that's the case, I think your problem is elsewhere because the the only difference between the GLib ebuilds in the main portage tree and the project overlays are subslot definitions and my guess is that even if you unmask Gentoo's version, it'll still fail to build.

For future reference, what is most useful to me is the full output starting from the emerge command.
