Hi,

is it possible to print stuff from my workstation which is connected via Ethernet to my router and then print the things via local WLAN from the router somehow?
I need this because my machine does not have a wlan module and my printer is set up wirelessly.

Do i have to proceed with a normal gentoo printer setup installation or how could i start?

thanks

Depends how your router is set up. If ethernet and wlan are bridged (usually the case on most residential routers) you can treat wireless connected wlan devices as part of the ethernet network because they are bridged.

However I have seen "wifi printers" that set up their own master mode (versus being a client). In this case you will have to do some trickery to use it. You will have to remove the uplink on your router and convert the router to a "wireless bridge" . This is beyond the scope of this forum, you will need to contact the firmware provider on your router for more details.

Have a look at https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Brother_networked_printer#Installing_the_printer. Can you access your printer's web interface? Then you should be able to set it up as LPD/LPR printer in cups. And, you would not even have to care for USB printing.
