Hi this is my first installation of Gentoo, I switched from Arch. My laptop is Thinkpad E550 with SSD Samsung EVO 850.
To install gentoo I used SystemRescueCD. My actual configuration is the following:
  • \dev\sda1 is EFI partition formatted with vfat -F32 mounted on \mnt\gentoo\boot\efi
  • \dev\sda2 is LUKS partition with LVM :
    • \dev\mapper\vg-root mounted on \mnt\gentoo
    • \dev\mapper\vg-home mounted on \mnt\gentoo\home
    • \dev\mapper\vg-swap

To compile the kernel I used genkernel as following:
Code:
genkernel --install --menuconfig --no-mountboot --no-gpg --no-compress-initramfs --all-ramdisk-modules --luks --lvm all

The compilation is without error and put on /boot initramfs- and kernel-. My question is related to efibootmgr because if I use the command:
Code:
efibootmgr -c -d /dev/sda -p 1 -L "Gentoo" -l "\efi\boot\bootx64.efi" initrd='\initramfs-genkernel-x86_64-4.0.5-gentoo'

gentoo doesn't start. Where I wrong? Can you help me?

I had the same issue with the same laptop. The workaround for me was using grub2 as a boot loader.

I tried efibootmgr, but it would not boot up properly. I don't know if its the uefi implementation or something I did wrong.
