Its worse than that. systemd keeps swallowing other functionality.

There will come a time when the binary distros want to back out systemd but unless there is a live alternative, it won't be possible.
systemd is swallowing things over the years. Replacing it will have to be an overnight thing. That means all the bits will need to be ready.

Thats how Red Hat get vendor lock in. There will be no way back for systemd adoptors, it will simply be too much work.
Its only the existance of Gentoos eudev that has kept udev usabale without systemd.
