Hello, I can't get X working on my new workstation (i7 5930K + ASUS X99-PRO + ASUS GTX960).

I followed the Xorg installation instructions and xorg-server is installed.

The following variables are set in make.conf

Code:

INPUT_DEVICES="evdev"
VIDEO_CARDS="nouveau vesa"

The kernel version is 4.0.5 and the installed drivers are:

Code:

x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev
x11-drivers/xf86-video-nouveau
x11-drivers/xf86-video-vesa

Here is the output of /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Code:

Is the nouveau driver the issue? Should I try the proprietary drivers?

Thanks

What version of the nouveau driver did you install?

Looks like it may or may not be supported: http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/CodeNames/ - may need to supply a bug there for your NV126 if you don't have the latest version.

If you must get it to work, yes it's worth to try the closed source driver.

Thanks for your reply. I installed the version 1.0.11, which is the last available.

I will give a try to the closed source driver now.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry couldn't help getting the OSS driver installed...

I recently had a different issue. Tried to install Gentoo on an old laptop with an old Nvidia built-in card. Tried to use the legacy driver. Does not work as it won't emerge properly due to kernel versions.

The OSS Nouveau works however, ...except it's slow... way too slow for 3D apps...
