I'm writing the 2nd version of a server management software right now.
The first was more/less a prototype, now I'm moving everything to rpc.
Anyhow,

when it's done I'd like to use Google's repo tool and I was peeking at ChromiumOS
https://chromium.googlesource.com/?format=HTML

so when it's done I'd also like to build the OS to install the package to.

I'm looking for people who can explain something about it.
CoreOS for instance also uses the repo tool and Gentoo ebuilds.

I'd like to have a base system and decide which packages are built.
The manifest files are somewhat clear.

RancherOS uses buildroot for their installer. Buildroot is pretty straighforward.
repo tool and manifests and getting a base system and adding packages is a bit obscure.

How would I get a base system?
How would I describe which packages are emerged?
How would I add custom modifications?

I will get there in time. But if someone already has some experience with it and would like to share, I would appreciate it.
I will bump this occasionally with new insights and it will serve as a scratchpad for me and other people interested in the topic.
