Hi,

On a fresh gentoo installation the kernel fails to mount ext4 root partition /dev/sda4. The partition layout is the same as described in the gentoo installaton manual.

Machine is an old thinkpad t23 which uses this controller (output from lspci -k from live cd):
Code:
00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801CAM IDE U100 Controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: IBM ThinkPad A/T/X Series
Kernel driver in use: ata_piix
Kernel modules: ata_piix, pata_acpi, ata_generic

I compiled all listed drivers in the kernel, no modules. The same I did for the ext2, ext3 and ext4 drivers. I checked it several times, everything is compiled in according to the config.

But at boot time the kernel shows this error:
Code:
VPS: Cannot open root device "804" or unknown-block(8,4): error -6

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
