this one is out of the usual gentoo questions, but I hope maybe someone has been here before :)

I run a gentoo i7 workstation, well updated, and use kde. I need to password recovery a cisco router.

Typically, I use "screen /dev/ttyS0" and it gives me good results for connection. However, when a passoword recovery is needed I have to enter some unusual keys.

cisco provides a list of key combos "to try". Most of them are

at power on....
ctrl+break
break
ctrl+]
ctrl+b

none of the ones I have seem to work. console works fine I can type into devices all day. This is just one of those odd key strokes that dont always add up.

Has anyone already fought this battle?

I've never used 'gnu screen' as a dumb terminal emulator, but typically use 'net-dialup/minicom'.

Control-B should work for most terminal emulators. Although control-] is a fairly common sequence, I'm not sure which terminal emulators support it. It *should* work as well.

However sending the OOB RS232 "break" is not always available. Minicom, however, does support it with alt-F (or control-a, F). Supposedly control-a b (or control-a control-b) should send break in gnu screen... but I've never tried it.
