Hi all,

I hope this is the right forum, but looks like a kernel problem to me.

The following is happening:

At work I have to start a Windows 7 VM in VMware Workstation for our project management solution. Inloox. It's awful.
However, as long as I start using gentoo-sources-4.0.9, everything is fine. If I start using 4.1.12 (the current stable!) or 4.2.6, I get to the login screen, enter my password, the windows desktop shows up and the laptop freezes.

There is some more HD activity, and once it dies down I have to reboot using MagicRq+REISUB.

The following is the kernel message from one crash with 4.1.12:
Code:

But the real problem is, that I can not find anything on the internet that looks relevant, no matter what the combination of keywords or the used search engine are.

Has anybody here seen anything like that?

Any ideas?

This sounded very familiar. A bit of searching reveals that yes, it has shown up before. You posted Strange Oops : kernel 4.1+, VMware Workstation + Windows 7 last week, and I answered it then. Your apparent freeze is a side effect of the oops. Prevent the oops and the freeze will go away.

Damnit. I did post that already, didn't I?
I forgot about the other thread and thought that I *wanted* to post but didn't do it already. Sorry.

Thank you very much for the reminder, though!
