Hi guys I made a second Gentoo box last night. Everything works perfectly except I wasnt able to get mate-base/mate-applets to compile on the fresh install. I had to skip it. I tried both versions from the portage tree and got the same error

ok so it turns out this is a confirmed bug https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=567468

Its not 100% solved but removing the 2 references to timerapplet at the bottom of the ebuild allowed me to emerge it.

can you tell how you did that? did you comment them out? and if so, which lines exactly?

could anyone else comment on how to proceed? having same trouble on fresh install.

edit: sorry, nvm. the bug report included the following information:

Quote:
I fixed it. In row 87 change:
python_fix_shebang invest-applet timer-applet-src
to
python_fix_shebang invest-applet timerapplet

And it will compile normally.

Hey sorry I didnt go into detail with the solution.

I unmasked and edited the mate-applets 1.8.1 .ebuild and added it to my custom PORTDIR_OVERLAY

I also needed to remove the timerapplet reference in the APPLETS= section Before I could get it to work. Here is the relevent section of the .ebuild

Code:
src_install() {
   python_fix_shebang invest-applet timer-applet
   gnome2_src_install

local APPLETS="accessx-status battstat charpick command cpufreq drivemount
geyes invest-applet mateweather mini-commander mixer multiload
         null_applet stickynotes trashapplet"

I fixed it by editing the ebuild for 1.8.0-r1 (this is the one that was failing for me)

I changed timer-applet/src to timerapplet on line 87. Then I got some digest errors, so I reconfigured it like so:

ebuild <path_to_ebuild_file> manifest

Then it worked for me.

I didn't have to remove the reference on line 92.

(Now I just have to figure out the portdir overlay thing so my changes are permanant) Any suggestions/guides?

edit: How bout McGregor?!

There are a lot of guides around. I dont have a link to a good one so I'll give you the steps I followed

Made the overlay directory
Code:
mkdir /usr/local/portage

add to make.conf
Code:
PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage"

make directory following same structure as /usr/portage
Code:
mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/mate-base/mate-applets

Added the ebuild
Code:
cp /usr/portage/mate-base/mate-applets/mate-applets-1.8.0-r1.ebuild /usr/local/portage/mate-base/mate-applets/mate-applets-1.8.0-r1.ebuild

Copied files folder
Code:
cp -R /usr/portage/mate-base/mate-applets/files /usr/local/portage/mate-base/mate-applets/

Made necessary changes
Code:
nano /usr/local/portage/mate-base/mate-applets/mate-applets-1.8.0-r1.ebuild

Created manifest
Code:
ebuild /usr/local/portage/mate-base/mate-applets/mate-applets-1.8.0-r1.ebuild manifest

I needed to add "mate-base/mate-applets ~amd64" to my package.keywords file afterwards

emerge --ask mate-applets and done :)
