Hi, and Welcome
Number one tip is FOLLOW THE HANDBOOK.All the information is there. That being said, here is my advice:
Quote:

Thats good so you should use lspci and lsmod from your working mint installation to take note of your hardware and the running kernel modules. This will make figuring out what to build support for in your gentoo kernel a lot easier. You will need to know your hardware.

Make sure you do your research about USE flags, where and how to set them correctly.(don't fill up your make.conf with unnecessary USE flags) and be sure to choose the right profile for your needs with eselect during installation.

Don't be discouraged if not everything works first go on your install.Just follow the handbook and you should be fine.

Good Luck :)

I'm running amd64 Gentoo at Lenovo Notebooks T4xx since years -more or less flawlessly. There fare good WIKI pages how to configure the kernel and the devices.

g-lock_dk,

Welcome.

You can use Mint to install Gentoo if you want and dual boot until everything works in Gentoo.
Then you can remove Mint and donate the free space to Gentoo.
