Hello,

i am setting up a new system, not the first time, and can not get through with cups. I tried cups-2.0.3 and 2.0.4 (testing), same result. The compiling process always breaks here:

Generating localization strings...
./genstrings >sample.c
/bin/sh: line 1: 22339 Illegal instruction ./genstrings > sample.c
Makefile:241: recipe for target 'genstrings' failed

Try removing -march=native in CFLAGS and emerge just cups by itself and see if it at least builds.
Perhaps -march=native is getting confused on your i3-2100, though ark seems to imply your i3 should run all the instructions of the 2000-series Core CPUs...

Tried that, same result.
Also tried march=corei7-avx as described at a funtoo page, same result. It does not seem to be a compiler setting problem.

Is there anything in dmesg (1) that would indicate a library that had a problem?

Whow. :D

Traps: genstrings[6996] trap invalid opcode ip:7faec4549fd3 sp:7fff59ffb2f8 error:0 in libnettle.so.6.1[7faec45400000+36000]

Does that say, a depency to libnettle is not covered?

Just checked, nettle is installed.

Ok, found it in bugs.funtoo.org FL-3037.

I have set wrong cpu-flag aes. After removing and rebuild of nettle now cups compiles.

Threat can get closed. Thanks for the hints.

Yeah that makes sense now, looks like you found the right answer to re-emerge nettle with the right cpuflags. Be careful to not blindly unmerge though nettle is ok. Just set flags correctly and re-emerge, portage should replace the package just fine.

Did that, and it worked just fine. The same advise I found in the funtoo bugs.
