Cannot boot from Gentoo minimal installation CD (install-x86-minimal-20160105.iso). Tried different kernel options, but it always ends with kernel panic.

Code:

No filesystem could mount root, tried: reiserfs ext3 ext2 ext4 squashfs vfat iso9660 hfsplus hfs ntfs udf xfs
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount rootfs on unknown-block(1,0)

I'm not getting the point - such error can occur when mounting the filesystem which support was not included in the kernel. But when booting with LiveCD all required modules should be already built in the kernel...

P.S.
I'm running it on a dramatically old laptop (Panasonic CF-35: Pentium MMX 266Mhz, 32Mb RAM).

mistreated ... 32mb will not be enough physical ram to boot ... the hardware requirements for the minimal-cd is 256mb.

best ... khay

mistreated,

In 32Mb of RAM, it might boot but you will not be able to run the build tools, so you cannot build Gentoo on that laptop.

Your error
Code:
unknown-block(1,0)
indicates that the system is attempting to mount /dev/ram0 as its root filesystem.
That will be the initrd.

Hmm ... maybe the kernel and decompressed initrd won't fit into 32 MB any more :(

Thanks, guys.
Probably you are right, 32Mb is not an option for the modern kernel. :)
